Playgroups

Children 2 months - 3 years old and their parents or caregivers
In-person

In the company of their peers and parents or caregivers, children explore age-appropriate materials that engage their senses and ignite their curiosity. We intentionally select each material for open-exploration and discovery.

The groups are facilitated by early childhood educators and social workers with extensive backgrounds in early childhood development, giving parents and caregivers the opportunity to ask questions related to their child’s development.

All playgroups:

  • Have a high teacher : student ratio

  • Use a thoughtful and varied selection of high-quality, and developmentally appropriate materials

  • Build skills in adults as well as children, so the learning experiences are sustained and reinforced beyond the program

  • Are assembled based on:

    • The likely interplay between the personalities of the incoming group

    • Developmental age, as well as chronological age

    • The attention more complex children require

For over 6 years, I designed and led developmentally inclusive My Grown-Up & Me playgroups at Bank Street. A specialized program, My Parent & Me: Developmental Social Group, focused on children with special needs — including those with medical fragility and rare syndromes — as well as the unique needs of their families.
